This is looking like it's gonna be my go-to subsonic 300 BLK short/long arm- we'll see how she performs at the range next week...

Here’s a good recipe I use for my 300blk subs:

-LC 5.56 brass with necks chopped and full length resized to 300blk.
-Berry’s 220gr spire point
-9.5gr of H110
-CCI 41 primer.
-2.230”

Comes out of my 8” barrel (1:7) at 1040fps. Sounds great through my suppressor.

I’ve found that H110 is a lot cleaner than the hodgdon cfe black powder.

The Berry’s 220’s have really good penetration btw.

I remember years ago when the firearms community dismissed 300 BO as a fad. It’s now one of the most popular cartridges in AR platforms. And the ammo is really affordable.

For supersonic, the Winchester 150 grain Extreme Points are solid and pretty cheap right now. They have great performance in ballistics gel and deer.

If it were such that I had to choose only 1 (one) rifle cartridge to use for every possible long gun application- I'd have to go with .308 Win.

But, for self-defense use only- 7.62×35 is unquestionably my #1 pick.

My current 300 BLK self-defense ammo is as follows:

Supersonic in 16" 1:8 barrels is Lehigh Supreme 115gr Controlled Chaos

Supersonic in 16" 1:7 barrels is GBW Legend Pro 125gr Copper HP

Supersonic in 16" 1:6 barrel is Winchester Silvertip 150gr Defense Tip

Subsonic in any barrel is SIG Sauer Elite 205gr Tipped Defense

My pistol has the 1:6 twist and really likes the 150s. Subsonics are a hoot at distance. I’ve routinely hit plates out to 300 yards with them, but the hold overs are laughably ridiculous.

It's a 7.5" AR pistol as currently designated by law- which is why I refer to it as a short/long gun.

And I really dig how it doesn't stick out past my feet when shouldered while sitting in my wheelchair...

You'll have a lot of fun with that. I built a DOLOS kit for that very reason. I also built my own version of a JTAC Elf/ Pork Sword for hunting.

My Kitty Kat is in 300 BLK for a reason- I got it for subsonic use (which in 300 BLK is ballistically equivalent to a mild .45 ACP handgun round), I just ordered a sound forwarder for it, but mostly because there's no way in hell I'd have a .223/5.56 with a 7.5" barrel- that makes no sense whatsoever! (unless one actually likes outrageous concussion/flash/blast, extreme inefficiency, and pitiable performance).

Launching 200+ grain .308 bullets at subsonic velocities using pistol powder for short range self-defense use is the reason why I bought my Kitty Kat- it's just an added bonus that it can also launch full power supersonic .308 bullets out of it if need be, and it'll handle them with aplomb.

Try that, 5.56... 😆

So...

There's no way I could have predicted just how impressed I'd be with this Kitty Kat- the only thing I'd say could possibly improve it would be a short-stroke gas system. Other than that- she's one hella sweet-shootin' pussycat.

I took 55 mixed rounds of Magtech 200gr FMJ and Winchester Super Suppressed 200gr Open Tip today for a "get to know each other" range session- and I've flat fallen in love with this fine feline.

I started at the 10yd line with five shots aimed low just to see where'd they go, and then switched between three different mags with five rounds each while moving from 10 to 15, 20, and then out to 25yds.

This little AR was accurate, 100% reliable, and extremely soft shooting... I didn't even notice that it had a blade brace instead of a stock on it.

Due to this Kitty's size, weight, accuracy, reliability, mild recoil/sound, familiar/simple manual of arms, and the ability for it to run full-house 300 BLK supers if need be- I gotta say this Kat has jumped right up into the catbird seat as my favorite go-to grab gun.

Our next range session will be to test more ammo (self-defense subs and a few supers), and also to try out some goodies I bought for her.

Here's what she did for me straight out of the box (just cleaned and lubed) shooting offhand from a seated/wheelchair position...

And BTW...

As I finished shooting, a guy started shooting his 5.56 AR pistol in the lane beside me. I brought my target back to the home position and was packing my stuff up when some movement caught my eye during the concussive blasts coming from my left- his muzzle blast was "unattaching" my target (I actively had fight my instinctive urge to flinch from the concussion of each shot he took)...

(yeah... my target was as flat as a freshly-ironed silk sheet until the knucklehead next door started up with his 5.56 pistol)

All in all it was an outstanding day at the range.😁
