I remember years ago when the firearms community dismissed 300 BO as a fad. It’s now one of the most popular cartridges in AR platforms. And the ammo is really affordable.

For supersonic, the Winchester 150 grain Extreme Points are solid and pretty cheap right now. They have great performance in ballistics gel and deer.

If it were such that I had to choose only 1 (one) rifle cartridge to use for every possible long gun application- I'd have to go with .308 Win.

But, for self-defense use only- 7.62×35 is unquestionably my #1 pick.

My current 300 BLK self-defense ammo is as follows:

Supersonic in 16" 1:8 barrels is Lehigh Supreme 115gr Controlled Chaos

Supersonic in 16" 1:7 barrels is GBW Legend Pro 125gr Copper HP

Supersonic in 16" 1:6 barrel is Winchester Silvertip 150gr Defense Tip

Subsonic in any barrel is SIG Sauer Elite 205gr Tipped Defense

My pistol has the 1:6 twist and really likes the 150s. Subsonics are a hoot at distance. I’ve routinely hit plates out to 300 yards with them, but the hold overs are laughably ridiculous.
