If the battery goes- it has an etched reticle. If the glass goes- the optic housing can be used as a big ghost ring rear sight.

Run out of ammo- beat 'em silly with your battle rifle... ain't a problem been invented that an M14 can't solve. 😎
Prisms do have a reputation for general robustness but mounts can get tweaked too. I’m just a paranoid man, I know.

Update: the short cantilever is pretty good with the 5X, but just a little too far back for me when shooting positions.

Notes on the Cogburn mount:
It's important to get the full 20 in-lb on those front set screws. It sounds like a lot for a tiny fastener, and it is. But if you don't, the mount won't come up to level.

Also my Springfield poly stock bedding job was successful. Couldn't do this with it previously. Ammo: CBC M80 ball. Had to make a sight adjustment after stage 2.

If I were ever going to shoot past 100 yards- I'd be very interested in the SLx 3× (or higher power optic with the Mini-ACOG footprint)). But since I only use my firearms for self-defense (and being wheelchair bound)- I spend 95% of my time training at the 25 yard indoor range.
Actually if you use a little "Kentucky elevation" (i.e. know your holdovers) you could use it past 100y. Not 600 or such but I'd say definitely out to 300.

Absolutely. I just have no need to shoot out to, or past 100 yards. It'd be hard to defend a shot taken at those distances as a self-defense shot. Even 50 yards could be tricky to defend- which is why I practice at 25 yards... mostly.

Finally made it to Monday Gunday after almost a month. Took the Scout Squad with the PA SLx 1× MicroPrism on a Cogburn mount and the XS Sights Low Weaver Backup Ghost Ring Rear Sight mounted on the scout rail, as well as my Adams Arms small frame .308 piston AR carbine (also with a PA 1× MicroPrism).

This was the final test of co-witnessing and zeroing the iron sights as viewed through the 1× MicroPrism optic (which replaced the OEM rear sight when mounted on the Cogburn mount) on my Scout Squad .

I am very happy to report that the XS Sights Ghost Ring Rear Sight zeroed perfectly with the iron front sight, the iron sights were clearly visible with a lower 1/3 co-witness through the optic, and the optic's reticle aligned perfectly right on top of the front sight post, with the front sight centered perfectly within the ghost ring rear sight's aperture.

I now have an M1A with a MicroPrism optic that also retains full co-witness with iron sights.

I could not be happier!

Here are the first five shots taken at 25 yards (offhand, seated/wheelchair) using Hornady Custom Lite .308 125 gr SST, point of aim was lower center torso...

I followed up with eight shots from the .308 AR carbine (point of aim was lower center head area), and then traded back and forth between the M1A and the AR with five shot strings...

The next five with the M1A (aiming slightly higher on the torso)...

And on...

I also got to use my recently unwrapped BRW S-I magazine... which, unsurprisingly- worked perfectly.

I am absolutely in love with both of these rifles. I am also totally sold on Primary Arms MicroPrism optics, Cogburn's MicroPrism mount, and the XS Sights Low Weaver Backup Ghost Ring Rear Sight mounted on an M1A's scout rail.

But most of all- I am so happy to prove that one does not have to live without iron sights when utilizing an optic that deletes the OEM rear sight on an M1A.

Where there's a will, there's a way... and this way ROCKS!

I just ordered one of these mounts last Friday and I haven't gotten any email verification of my order and no payment has gone through. I've emailed them about it but no response has come through yet. Is this typical? I want to make sure the mount is coming and they've gotten the order. What's everyone's experience been with this? They don't have a phone number listed to call.

I got my part within a week, but most of their parts are made to order. Here's what they say on their "About Us" page...

About Us

Making parts to order ensures we keep the cost low across a large selection of products. That way we don’t make the customer pay a mark up for our mistake of ordering too many of something and it never gets sold. We typically can get parts turned around in about 3-4 weeks.

Did you create an account when you placed your order? If so- you can sign in and check the status. Regardless, you should have received an email verification shortly after placing your order- which makes me wonder about whether your order actually went through or not.

And it seems quite odd that you haven't gotten a response from them about your email inquiry- that just doesn't make sense to me.

They follow the threads here on our forum- so I hope you hear something soon... keep us updated.

I thought it was odd. I'm waiting to hear back before I reorder it. By what I see on here and elsewhere online, it doesn't look like it's a huge operation, with maybe one or a few people doing it. They don't have a reputation for being anything but professional and communicative so I'm not concerned with a scam or anything. I see the word " I " Used on the website which indicates maybe a lone operation. Hopefully nothing bad happened. I'm assuming it may just be a Vacation or some personal matter that came up. I'll keep updated. I want to put this on my scout and do a full write up on all the stuff I've done to it as I've put a lot of time into it and this optic setup is the most exciting development I've seen in a while. I had a leupold fx2 6x scope on my scout using a basset mount that I love but this is more streamlined and compact with the lowest optic mounting setup possible. I put the leupold on another m1a I've got but I want to do a full review of my rifles to help share my experience and maybe give guidance to people who are looking into something and want to know a more personal account than just a company web page. I've done YouTube videos on rebuilding gi fiberglass stocks, albeit of amature quality, but I think this would complete a long time build perfectly.

Just a quick update. I did hear back from cogburn about my order and apparently there was a credit card issue so the order didn't go through originally. They emailed me to let me know and I have resubmitted the order with a confirmation number and email coming through immediately. I'll update when the mount arrives but I wanted to touch base as to not cause unneeded alarm or concern. I have the scope and will mount it as soon as the mount shows up.

Anybody try one of these mounts on a Norinco? I just picked a Norinco that I won on Gunbroker and want to try one of these. I'm assuming this will mount up, but you never know what a Chinese metric clone will get you.

I have a Ruger SFAR .308 with a 3x prism and it is an excellent, lightweight set up. I liked the optic so much I bought one for my PSA KS47 (AR in 7.62x39mm that takes AK mags). Looks like I will be getting a third.

Would have been a bit easier if I had two thumbs- but otherwise a very straightforward installation...

@Para Pete Do you have any trouble with eye-relief with this setup? After weeks of trying to decide on the best setup, I did an identical setup to this but with a VORTEX SPITFIRE 3X HD GEN2 - and it doesn't work. I have to jack my head unnaturally far up the stock to get into the SPITFIRE's eye-box. I'm so disappointed.
