# 2 NLGI lithium- or calcium-based grease will work.

 

Boat trailer bearing grease is usually #2 NLG and water proof. And cheap. One can will last several lifetimes.

My favorite is the red Valvoline multipurpose/high pressure wheel bearing grease in the 4lb tub.

 

I use the white lithium grease & have done so for years.

I have always used cheap dark gray moly based wheel bearing grease in my M14's and Garands, It works fine and does not spray out when firing like some of the expensive super custom synthetic gun greases that come in a tiny little tube with a huge sticker price.

 

Moly grease works for me also.

Use whatever floats your boat...

But... I personally don't understand why you would spend $1500+ dollars on a rifle and skimp on something as important as the grease that keeps that $1500+ rifle running smooth. At $7 a tube or $12 a tub Slide Glide will actually prevent rust and other harmful corrosives from doing harm. Its a small price that I personally am willing to pay for peace of mind and superior lubricating protection.

FWIW...I use a brand name hi- pressure/hi- temp wheel synthetic bearing grease, same as I would use on any of my vehicles

 

I use grease,rifle mil-g-46003 (ord) this can was made in nov/1963 .You can still find this stuff at gunshows altho not for $1.00 a can.
