I hope the dates being submitted are either:

The manufactured date from SA, Inc. OR

First owner purchase. This category may be off by quite a few months, but will still surfice to get a rough idea. A rifle rarely will sit on a shelf for more than a few months.

If any are second owner purchases, the dates can be confuse the issue.

Bill, I've asked that the dates provided be from the factory headspace tag in the box or the shipped date available from SA, Inc. Customer Service. The dates are tracking very well as far as I can see with perhaps one or two.

The firearm that corresponds to serial number 034299 was manufactured in May of 1985 as a standard M1A with a NM barrel. That is all I can tell you about it.

Thank You,

Lexi

???

This may be a DA question already answered in here somewhere, but is there any way of establishing the build date of your rifle without the paperwork? Is is proofed somewhere tthat would give you an indication? Or is the whole intent of the data base to find enough guys with paperwork to help establish some SN ranges?...reason I ask is I have two M1A's...I have no paperwork with either, but the original owner told me that my 1229xx was built in Dec 99. I am not sure how he arrivced at that conclusion. That appears to fall into the data base window which is good. My new one is SN 0591xx which seems to put it into a July 1990 window. If I can help this out in any way I'd like to.

, send a very polite e-mail to sales@springfield-armory.com requesting the build or ship date for the M1A serial numbers you provide them. Lexi or Brandy will answer you by e-mail in short order. That is not a dumb question. :D

Thanks to Bill Ricca's thread on The Firing Line Forun, I came across this thread. It's Sunday afternoon, so I can't contact SA right now, but looking at Different's 12/19/04 post, I can place my Standard M1A (s/n 0622xx) to the first half of 1991.

My first Super Match was ordered 9/28/88
SN 0459XX

I'll have to shoot off an Email tomorrow to SA to check on their born on date for the rest.
