I am shopping around for a long term bob/survival bag. I have narrowed my search to either a molle II ruck (external frame) with sustinance packs or a cfp 90 (internal frame) with patrol pack. I dont have access to either to get a feel for them. From my readings on line, I am leaning towards the cfp90. Anyone here have hands on with either, or both and have thoughts to share? I live in town and if I need to leave, its up to the Blue mountains for me and the family (wife and two small kids). I was thinking 3 day assault pack but I dont think it would be big enough for the items needed for a long term or fall/winter outing. Thanks for your time.

I have the newest version of the MOLLE issed to me. It's been great so far. It has some minor convenience and comfort improvements over the large ALICE, but for the price the ALICE is hard to beat. I have no idea what the other kind you mentioned is.

Go with a alice pack strong frame, outside pockets, store some goods
at your bo location.

I can tell you that the 90 is a great ruck. I got mine back in the 90's and it's logged some miles. It's now my "go bag" that I keep in my truck, for those JIC scenarios. I've gone heavy, and I've gone light with it, and it's just a comfortable pack. If you can find one with the day pack on it then even better. I really don't think you'd be disappointed with it. I checked, and Wardens has it for a reasonable price. If you get a chance to talk to TJ, then he's a great guy.

Cfp-90
First Reason: The 90 didn't stick around because it was the last of the ALICE style systems and came at the beginning of the MOLLE revolution.
That being said, the first thing I did was to replace the aluminum frame rails with a stronger aluminum! They were pretty cheap. I still have it, and it cost me like 5 bucks for the stock, and paid off immessurably because of the heavy loads I carried.
Second reason: It's a great ruck for bulky items, but the problem with "Joe" is that if you give him the space...he'll fil it every time. There were a LOT of back injuries because commanders and GI's saw more and more space available...and they filled it!
Personally, I like that I don't have to squeeze down my sleeping bag as far and can still carry a small tent....and my scouts think it's cool that I carry a "real camo army pack"!!! hehehe
