Looking for a holster for my new Colt Series 70 Govt. I want a good quality OTW and I leaning heavily towards the Milt Sparks Axiom. Does anyone have one for their 5" 1911? I'm curious to hear about members opinions here.

Sparks makes top of the line holsters from my personal experience with one I had.

It was an "executive" model, . . . not sure they make that one still, . . . I let an acquaintance talk me out of it, . . .

My favorite holster is a "sort of" knockoff from one of their designs. Been carrying a couple of all steel 1911's in it for several years, . . . super comfortable / stays in place, . . . works like it is supposed to.

May God bless,
Dwight

I have a TK 60 Road Runner (I think it is called) from Milt.
Bought in the mid 90's it is still GTG.
I would imagine anything you buy from Milt Sparks will still be to notch.

For OWB look at the Milt Sparks 55BN. This is a copy of the Bruce Nelson Professional #1. I own both holsters, the difference is the that Sparks uses a strap around the mouth of the holster to stiffen it. Supposedly if Bruce had lived longer he was going to make this change. You'll need to break in your new holster, expect it to be tight when you get it. If you don't have a good gun belt look at the bias cut belts they have. Bruce Nelson started this to and they feel/work great. Without a good belt no holster will work well.

I got one for my P938, but it didn't work with aftermarket TFO sights. Too bad, as it was a very high quality piece of leather.

I carry my Hi-Power in a Milt Sparks Summer Special II. No regrets!

If you order from them expect to wait 4 months before it is delivered.

Just how it is, they are busy for a reason.

I have a few of them. They start out with a bit of retention and as you use them the retention becomes non existent. Very very comfortable. Very durable.
You might not want to break the holster in. The retention that it has when you first get it is a very good thing.

Talk to Dwight55.

I have the Axiom that I use with a Commander 1911 and it is an excellent holster. I needed a holster that was easy on and off and this fit the bill.

Securing the snaps was definitely easier to do without the holster on initially but settled in after awhile.

Pay attention to their note about 1.5" belts. I had a few that were thicker than most that the Axiom would not work with.

Just got off the phone with MS and ordered the axiom. Guy was very nice and deal was done in a few minutes. Told me 12-18 weeks and they try to get them out sooner but that's ok, I'm not really in a hurry and don't mind waiting for top quality which I understand from my reading they are. Can't wait to see the box on the porch. Thanks for all the helpful posts.

I ordered a Summer Special II for my Colt Commander this morning after reading this thread. Ryan from MS told me 12-18 weeks also.

I waited 16 weeks for the SSII I have for my BHP.

Worth the wait, you will be happy with your Axiom.

The Avenger is a good 1911 holster. The 1980's vintage Bianchi Askins Avenger had a leather retaining thong, leather retaining thong?, with a split in it that would retain the pistol by wrapping over the cocked and locked hammer. The thong was removable as it was held onto the holster by a snap.

I still need a holster for my 1911....

Was looking at the Galco vertical shoulder holster. I’m not patient enough to wait 4months :)

I like the idea of something I can throw on like a back pack regardless of what I’m wearing. Hunting, hiking, conceal, end of the world or basement ninja.

I have a few Milt sparks V-max 2. Well made and held up real well. I also sport Kramer vertical SCABBARD, Horsehide, also tough and well made. I snatched up a great deal on a Colt rail gun. I bought a Kydex holster from Wilson combat. Never though I would use Kydex. But I'm loving it. Lots of choices out there good luck good shooting
