M1A EBR

So I’ve finally decided to transform my M1A Standard into an M1A EBR. I’m upgrading the chassis, trigger and barrel, but have a few quick questions. This build is a blend of the M14 EBR-RI and the M39-EMR all aiming to be a DMR. With that said:

1) Will upgrading the standard flash hider to a Fulton armory NM be worth it in the accuracy department?

2) if my goal is accuracy, should I avoid the bayonet lug?

3) is it worth upgrading to the Fulton Armory NM gas piston or the special coating version?

Thanks for any input.

I’ve never put an EBR together but here’s what I know:

to my knowledge the NM FS is bored out slightly to keep rain from interfering with the round in matches, so no real advantage I know of. My best rifle shoots sub moa and it has standard FS

bayo lug does not affect accuracy

the NM pistons are hit or miss between individual rifles, some people just say to try a few different ones and see which one works best. I’ve heard of some rifles negatively affected by using NM pistons with the groove because it affects gas,, but the coating supposedly makes cleaning easier.

you’re already sinking a chunk of change in an EBR so why not try it with all your existing parts and see what shakes when you get it in the chassis?

just my opinions

Thanks for the insight. I don’t think I’ll swap out the gas piston then as the standard one works. I was curious about the SEI piston that they say were installed on EBRs/EMRs. Didn’t say they were NM, so not sure.

For the cost of the chassis, I can build 2 more rifles. 😁

No doubt the rifle looks ungodly mean. But the wood instills certain decorum to the rifle itself. I just love the look in its original wood. No fuss. No muss. Simple and effective as it was intended.
