While not related to military service or law enforcement the M14 type rifle has been used dramatically in entertainment industry television shows and films over the years. The M14 rifle made its entertainment debut on the NBC broadcast television drama series The Lieutenant starring Gary Lockwood and Robert Vaughn. The series depicted a U. S. Marine infantry unit stationed at Camp Pendelton, CA. The series received strong support from the U. S. Marine Corps. There were twenty-nine hour long episodes which aired during the 1963-64 season. The M14 was next featured on the hit CBS broadcast television situation comedy Gomer Pyle, USMC starring Jim Nabors and Frank Sutton. It aired from September 25, 1964 to September 19, 1969. The M14 type rifle is also seen in scenes of fictional 1960s Viet Nam combat on the NBC broadcast television drama American Dreams. This series began September 29, 2002 and was entering its third season in the fall of 2004. The M14 type rifle has also been featured more than once on the History Channel cable television weekly program Mail Call hosted by former U. S. Marine, Viet Nam veteran, actor and M14 fan R. Lee Ermey. Mail Call began its third season on July 06, 2004.

Former SecNav James Webb's book "Fields of Fire" was being filmed in Mexico on a very low budget. They were using Hollywood-made "M14s" that were actually M1 rifles.

They had to reshoot several of the key firefight scenes because the actors forgot to count their blank rounds and the 8-round clip came twanging out! While they might have been able to take the sound of the clip ejecting, they couldn't hide the sight of the clip flying out. CUT!

Yeah the boys in company c, has some m14 action or maybe it was all m16 been some time since i have seen it.It was one of the first movies to come out about vietnam 1978. Mr U.S.M.C. R. Lee Ermey is in this one also, only much younger and he plays a DI

here is some info on it

Cowritten by director Sidney J. Furie, The Boys in Company C charts the fortunes of five young Marine recruits. Led by Stan Shaw, the quintet is shipped off to Vietnam. The film makes no bones about the demoralizing effect the war has on its participants, nor the pigheadedness of the military higher-ups who think only in terms of body counts and photo ops. Of the five recruits, the most memorable are Michael Lembeck as Vinnie Fazio, the resident wiseguy (the same type of role played by Lembeck's dad Harvey in 1950s war films) and Andrew Stevens as Billy Ray Pike, a straight-arrow type who succumbs to the lure of drugs; the others are played by Craig Wasson, James Canning, and Scott Hylands. Transcending its skintight budget, Boys in Company C is among the best and most straightforward of the Vietnam combat films. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Follow Me, Boys, (1966), starring Fred MacMurray. Just got done watching it. During the part where the Boy Scout troop gets caught up in the wargames, there are some stock footage scenes with soldiers carrying M14s.

Do I win a prize for being first to mention M14s in a Disney movie?
Yes, if you buy your airfare & get a room I will drive you to Disney Land GI6 , it's about 60 miles from my house GI7 . Surprised they have any guns in a Disney film. I hope the good guy had the 14.

I don't know if there was an M14 or not, its been a number of years since I've seen it. I know it was an early vietnam movie (ie mid to late 60s), but I don't know if its all M16s or if there were 14s as well. One thing I will say, I don't think its worth torturing yourself watching to find out. I only mentioned it because of the disney link.
