Has anyone used winter trigger on M1A / M14

When I bought my M1A many years ago I got extra parts with it. I just put them in a box and stored till last week. I have a winter safety and the winter trigger assembly. It's not the trigger you have to drill holes in your stock and fasten with screws. This one you lift up the trigger guard about 1/4 in. Then slide trigger assembly slot onto trigger guard then snap trigger guard in place. Takes about 30 seconds. Didn't find it in any of my M14 books or manuals but I did find it in my M1 Garand TM manual dated 17 March 1969. Manual says Winter Trigger Kit Type T-36. I have dry fired with it on, feels quite a bit different. Has anyone ever fired a rifle with a winter trigger? I'm going to try it in a couple of weeks when I can get to a range.

John, as issued the "no drill" simple winter trigger comes with an extra piece that will slide on to a stamped trigger guard. If you have a milled M1 guard, you remove that piece, but without the extra part, it won't go back on an M14 or stamped guard. You can find them either way, but in the package they fit both types. I understand now how it would fit the milled and stamped trigger guard. The winter trigger comes in two pieces. The winter trigger and the adapter ring. The trigger has a spring loaded clip you push down and slide into the milled housing hole, then clip stops it from comming out. The adapter ring is a substitute for the hole to install in the stamped housing.

As far as the safety goes, you would have to disassemble the trigger assembly and install it where the original safety is. It would stick out in front of the trigger housing about one inch and at about a 45% angle. I am going to try the trigger but will not install the safety. Spike

IIRC, some of of those winter trigger kits were made for either type of trigger guard; they have a slot that the stamped guard slides into. I've got one of them, but have never tried it; always thought of it as sort of a curiousity, like the grenade launcher sights. Col. Colt, I've never even seen a winter safety; I think they're sort of rare. Have fun shooting it; I'd be interested in knowing how it went.
