I recently de-linked about 800 rounds of m80 and m855 by hand. Use leather gloves, padded if you have them. Get a wooden piece of ceiling trim or other wood that's reasonably sturdy but thinner than the opening of the link. Make it long enough to be at hand level when sitting in your comfortable chair in front of the TV. put one end of the piece of wood on the floor (carpeted, or put a rug or towel down) and hold the other end between your knees. Hold the belt bullet-side up and use the piece of wood to push the round out as you press down on either side. pick up/separate the links/ammo.

My way doesn't use the piece of wood.

The slow way...

1. Get yourself a large soft chair, place in front of TV.
2. Get yourself a pair of learther gloves heavy type.
3. Get yourself two ammo cans, one on each side of the chair.
4. Sit and watch TV as you push the rounds out the back of each link.
5. Place the round in one can and the unused link in the other can.

The faster way...

1. Put the belted ammunition in your M60/SAW or Ma Duce and put the trigger

.
2. Pick up links and put in can on right.
3. Pick up brass and place in can on left.

 

I just delinked a 250 round belt of 7.62 nato and even with my gloves I ended up getting a blister on the palm of my hand! Must have been paying to much attention to the tv!

 

Easy way to fix that:

Pour a tall Scotch & Soda with a slice of lime. I use single malt, but your mileage may vary.

You still get the blister, but it doesn't seem to matter as much.

was that the M60 Radway green ammo, and was it clean? ive considered buying 800 rounds or so at the 43 cents a round marker, but i was interested to see if it was tarnished or what not.

 

I've used the edge of the bench and the block of wood I used when depriming once-fired military brass. With the gloves.

 

Thanks for all of the advise. I tried some yesterday and yes padded gloves are nice. I turned a 30-06 case base up in my vise, placed the 7.62 round on the case and simply pushed down. It worked like a charm.
