I thought the modern method for shooting an M16/M4 in combat was:

1. Sight in at 25 yards for 25/300 zero
2. If enemy is within 300 yards, point and shoot. If not:
3. Call airstrike

A lot of stuff isn't in that manual too....

I suggest:

MCRP 3-1A - Rifle Marksmanship

Neither is a "better" manual, the two compliment each other.

 

Nothing on how to read the wind or apply windage to the sights. There's more on Kentucky windage than there is on applying elevation. I'll stick to the marine corps way...

For the carbines I use 25 meter sight in...for the 25/300M

For the full size 20" battle rifles I use 36yd sight in (USMC)...for the 300M Maximum point blank range.
