I recently set up my house with a generator connection (240 volt / 30 amp). My electrical panel has an interlock switch for changing between power sources. The plug and interlock switch were installed by a professional, licensed electrician. I have a shiny new 7500 watt generator. I would like to test the system before we have an actual power outage. I'm not an electrician though, and I want to make sure I can do it safely.
So, if I turn off the main power at my panel and hook up the generator, can I test the system safely? It seems like I should be able to, but I want to make sure there isn't anything that I'm not aware of.
