I'm looking for a little information for a friend (I told him to join the forum here) and his M1A. On the right rear side of the receiver is stamped "1 of 100". I have never seen or heard of anything like this and was wondering if anyone else here has any info.

This is his M1A. Absolutely beautiful with a wood forearm guard.

He has talked to Springfield and all they could inform him was that it was manufactured in the early 80's (I think he said 1983?). Any thoughts on "1 of 100"?

Thanks in advance.

SA produced several special runs of the M1A. One was the Even Thousand serial number series. They were standard models with blued finish and a nice walnut stock that included a medalion. I think they were made in 1993 and could not have included more than 65 rifles at the time.
