As of February, 2004, Springfield Armory, Inc. M1A receivers are made by Alphacasting, Inc. in St-Laurent, Quebec, Canada for Springfield Armory, Inc. Alphacasting, Inc. makes the M1A receiver by the lost wax investment casting method. In business since 1991, it is a precision casting firm that makes parts from aluminum, bronze, and many grades of carbon and stainless steels. At Springfield Armory, Inc

Which is funny because John C Garand was born in Quebec Canada

Yes, last I heard quite a few cast parts, mainly supplied by Wayne Machine in Taiwan. Gas Cylinders, Flash Suppressors, Sights, etc.

Here's the link:

These are the M14 and Garand parts they make. This list is from the .pdf you can download from their website:

I have it on good authority that all parts are north american made by several vendors. I was told that there were no foreign parts, aside from Canada, on the rifles.

Uh-oh...

Different,

Based on that link, we can also guess where Springfield's major 1911 components might be made as well...GI4

...and I always thought it was Brazil!GI3

I believe you can’t import Chinese firearms and parts But that’s good for us in Canada $400.00 Norinco’s are a prime example. The Export ban from what I understand is because the powers that be are worried that they are going to get into the hands of the "terrorists" which makes no sense because lets face it $50 AK vs. $1500 AR which would you choose?

Any way you look at it, that's quite an assortment of foreign-made parts. Odds are most of us will end up with some or the other at some time during our Garand-M14 clone shooting lives.

I'm so glad that I stocked up on M-14 parts and especially the mags back when they were dirt cheap in the 80's and 90's. When it came to the mags I bought them cheap and stacked them deep. Back in the day you could pick up nice clean USGI mags for a buck or two a pop and new in the wrap for five bucks or so...

I believe the new M1As are sporting rifles due to the 10 round mags and no bayonet lug.

Very interesting ! I am glad that I took the time to read that thread .It seems that the only thing US made on a springfield is the receiver and maybee the stock if you get the model with a Boyds stock.
