I'm gearing up to make some bulk ammo to feed my three girls. What ball powder should I use?

I have the following:
-H335
-W748
-BLC2

This will be for warm-up ammo and will be of mixed cases. Not looking for accuracy, just a good stash of warm-up ammo.

I am also going to start gearing up for some bulk 223/5.56 but it looks like all those ball powders will work too.

Recommendations welcome.

Thanks,
Tony.

I have been using BLC2 for years with 150gn FMJBT Bullets BLC2 is the commercial version of WC844 which was the original Powder used in M80 GI Ammo designed for the M14. It has proven to be quite accurate in my Criterion Barreled LRBs

not sure if it is the best but I have all three of those powders and have WW748 set in my thrower and used it for .223 and .308 loads.
Brother used H335

Tony,

I like H335 the best. Have never had luck with 748 regardless of caliber. BLC2 is an unknown to me. You'll have to try them and see...

Sorry my answer wasn't more definitive...

I don't think you can go wrong with any of those choices in .308.

If going with .223/5.56 and 55 grain bullets, H335 works well.
I'll second this... but will add for any of the newer reloaders... BLC2 can get spooky pressure signs from max'ish loads and higher temps.

When I tried it in my 7.62x51 and 5.56 loads.... it would abruptly show pressure signs.

One moment fine... the next higher charge weight and I would clearly see flat primers.

So if you use BLC2... be sure to use moderate charges to make up for high temp. days.

Curious how you like H335 in 308... that is an area I plan on experimenting myself.

I've been using 748 in .223 52gr HPBT and 55 FMJBT loads, and like it fine. Down to my last 2lb-ish.

Keep us posted on your testing.

Actually BLC2 is the commercial version of WC846, H335 is the commercial version of WC844.
WC846 was the ball powder for 7.62x51 and WC844 was the ball powder for 5.56.
I have about 32 pounds of WC844 that I use for my ARs, I am thinking about trying it for the .308. I dont think WC844 or H335 will be good for anything over a 150 grain bullet.

That said I have been using 748 with a 150 grain bullet for some local VimSAR matches and it shoots almost as good as my match ammo.

Another ball powder to consider would be AA2520. Works great in 308 and 223.

BL-C2 is a great all-around powder I used it for my 168 grain loads all the way through 150 and into most of my 223 as well.

The only difference between W846 and W844 is the allowable amount of CaCO3. Calcium carbonate is used in the production process to neutralize acid, it also is a good erosion inhibitor, however, like all erosion inhibitors, it tends to increase fouling.

The reason I suggested using H335 for both, M14 can stand a little fouling, ARs are more sensitive....

Save the W748 for the 223/5.56, that's what that powder was made for.

BLC2 should work fine.
I have a thrower set to 25gr BLC2 for .223/55gr .222/50/52gr for my rifles.
Set my WW748 .308 for my deer rifle and seems to work well with some loads for my M1A
