Looks like half of an op-rod..........as in broken.

Barrel is the front section of an M16/AR15 barrel. The 2 grooves are for the tapered pins that hold the front sight base on.

Looks like half of an op-rod..........as in broken.
But it’s not broken, that’s what has me baffled. It’s machined and coated, made short.

so someone cut it off with a lathe, wonder why they would have done it 🤨
Op rod is for an M1 Garand. Not marked prolly means never finished.
I thought it was too short to be for a Garand🤷🏻‍♂️,

Op rods are 2 piece. Tube section gets welded on. Being there is no makers mark on it, I'm guessing it was either a defect or one that never got finished. No clue why it got parked.

Thanks, that makes sense. Now I know it’s not something worth messing with.
