What can I expect to pay for a solid Devine M1A?

Early rifles have to be evaluated on an individual basis, but you are in the ballpark for a minty one that has not been altered.

I agree with KurtC, I’ve watched them on gb go for between that. I would expect that price range.

edit, also what KurtC said. Individual rifles condition, parts, etc will determine value.That and who you are bidding against and how much they like it.

Also, if you have an account on gb you can search by completed auctions and get some kind of an idea.

A few months ago #523 sold at Rock Island Auction Company for $6,500+ tax and fees. It was in E2 configuration.

These days all guns are selling for more than ever before. I saw what appeared to be a more or less garden-variety modern Marlin .30-30 sell for over $10,000 on gunbroker the other day. Looked to me like an $800 dollar rifle tops!

I don't see a thing, other than it's a clean weapon. My JM marked 1895 .45-70 definitely is not worth 10 Grand, and it's in excellent condition!! I have money to burn, but I need a good reason to burn it and that sale is not it!! This guy's in for a huge shock if he thinks he's going to resell it for anything approaching the figure it went for. It sounds like buyer fever, ie: "I'm not going too let this guy beat me on this auction!!". -Lloyd 🍻

137 bids? That is fricking crazy. The absurdities of Gun Joker auctions now are making me want to list some guns I could part with. I would gladly take 10k for one of my 1894s.

I have been collecting Devine’s for a very long time and keep track of original examples. According to Elmer Ballance there are less than 200 surviving Devine Texas M1A rifles in varying original condition. My data supports that conclusion. Keep in mind the “MOST”common DEVINE rifle is the DEVINE TEX one line barrel address with only 28 known examples!

What's "original" Devine? One line? Two line? Radium? As far as I'm concerned, they are all "original". I have a "JH" marked Devine, a Radium, and a rifle built on a barreled receiver and built by Ol Hook Boutine. All are documented by Elmer.

Original in regards to the rifles being in the condition they left Elmer’s shop in 1971-1974 just with additional wear. Elmer says John Holden built 100 NM accurized Devine M1A’s for him and Glen and Hook built an additional 125. These are considered to be some of the rarest Devine’s. All of those will be in Elmer’s records and can be authenticated. Elmer will tell you he sold or traded off well over a thousand receivers and barreled receivers that were later assembled by others into complete rifles. I believe we can agree these are Texas receivers but were not Devine ( ie Elmer Ballance ) manufactured rifles.
