Pics from around the 3rd Field Hospital, Saigon, Vietnam. c. 1965/1966.

An MP on guard at the gate to the 3rd Fld Hospital with his M14. Note his jungle fatigues; those are the first issue type with the buttons on the outside of the pockets. Dates the photo as being in the '65/'66 era.

Anita Bryant, Joey Heatherton (I love you), Jerry Colonna, and Carrol Baker visiting the hospital.

Bob Hope visiting a troop at the hospital.

Another pic of Bob Hope.

Charlton Heston visiting a troop at the hospital.

It's always good to have the Cav around to cover my six.

Thanks

I fixed 'Siagon' while I was at it.

I spent 5 days in ICU at 3rd field hospital.
Shot in lung and both legs.
I got stabalised at Quan Loi Medivac.

There were some sadcases in there-old lady next to me had her whole jaw shot away, several GIs badly screwed up from a grenade-one died-The worst were 2 NVA who were shot to pieces.
My visitors were the US Postmaster General, the Commisioner of baseball, Reggie Jackson, and Joe Dimaggio.

I was glad to get out of there.

After 3 weeks at 6th convalesence, I was back in the field.

Quan Loi was just up the street from me at Lai Khe.

Glad to see you made it.

I spent 3 months at the 17th FH, on Tran Hung Dao in Saigon, running their generators.

It is the only hospital I was ever in that I honestly enjoyed their food.

May God bless,
Dwight
