I'll be traveling from Kansas City Missouri with my valid CCW, I see NE reciprocates CCWs with Missouri, and I see some law that requires identification on contact with LEO/EMS. I also understand your posted no guns signage is a criminal offense. Anything quirky about NE I should know about?

I'll be in my POV with a loaded concealed handgun with 10 magazines and about 100 rounds of backup ammo, traveling to Omaha overnite and returning the next day. Will be visiting your Zoo and the SAC Museum, specifically. Most no guns signs I just ignore but there's no criminal offense in MO for doing so.

I really don't like to claim Omaha as part of Nebraska. When I visit I leave the pistol in the truck. The key is to self identify when in contact with peace officers. I have yet to have an officer spaz over CC. Almost reassurance to them that I am not as crazy as I look.

I am in Kearney, about middle of the state. Much more relaxed out here. We have a couple guys in town that open carry. Walmart and the mall are used to it.

Enjoy your trip!

You do know the SAC museum's now the Strategic Air and Space museum and it's no longer in Bellevue, right? It's now at Ashland, intersection of I80 and 66 highway, watch for jet fighter on the pedestal. Other side of I80 is a drive thru wildlife park.

In my experience, most zoos are typically in areas of the city that aren't the best. Don't know why.
Zoo's are typically owned by the city, so they put them alongside public parks (which attract crime). Many cities use real estate that has little commercial value, (as in potential tax revenue).

New Jersey has one quirk for out-of-state CCW holders. You need to disassemble the firearm, put the parts in separate locked boxes and then leave it at home.

Originally from the Omaha area. Omaha isn't bad. The SAC and the zoo are pretty cool. Omaha's zoo is now #1 in the world, ahead of San Diego. Omaha's zoo isn't in a particularly bad part of town. It is south of downtown, which is way better than being north of downtown. There are maybe some dumpier neighborhoods south and west of the zoo, but the zoo owns all the land up to the river.

I didn't know that no gun zones could cause criminal charges if not followed. That said, never carried in Omaha.

Omaha now has a really nice indoor range off of Center Street. It is probably the best indoor range I have ever been to. They do make you sit through a 5 min gun/range safety video, which is kinda obnoxious -but like a staff member there said... Most folk know what they are doing, but all it takes is one clown to ruin someone's life.

I found out that the museum moved the hard way years ago. Went to a hamfest up in Sioux City by way of I29 through KC and decided to hit the SAC museum on the way home. I knew the way to it from the South but never went to it form the North so I followed the signs...

I ended up in the middle of nowhere, in front of this big building with a bunch of missiles in front of it thinking, "O-KAy, looks like the museum got remodeled but where the #$%& did they move Offutt to?" If that wasn't bad enough, I somehow got the wrongway on I80 afterward and ended up in Lincoln thinking I was going East back to Omaha!

The wildlife conservation area across I 80 from the SAC museum's pretty cool, too. Been a few years since I've been to both, may try to get back up there this Fall.
