My SA Inc. M1A was made 12-30-03.......the stock with the butt plate off has a letter "S" stamped right by the two compartment holes for the cleaning gear.....is this a SA stock?.....has a "P" proof on the grip and is Birch....does have what looks like to be a fake DAS cartouche.....the arrows have no points, just sticks........thankyou

I have heard the "sticks" cartouche on SA rifles is a repro. Does the stock have the selector cutout?

The only stock like this I've seen sure looks like a genuine M14 stock. The DOD Eagle was only applied to complete M14 rifles, not spare stocks, so the lack there of, or the addition of the faux Eagle doesn't mean the stock isn't genuine.

The Eagle and Sticks on this rifle is obviously a faux final inspection mark.

Right, but if there is no selector cutout, it shouldn't have any cartouche at all, right? Od did DOD use some wood stocks without cutouts? I don't think they did.

M14 stocks require the selector cutout and the connector cutout at the front of the op rod. The M14 won't function without the connector and the selector nub is standard on all rifles.

The Eagle and Sticks stock I saw 10 days ago had both cut outs and a very nice finish. Circle-P was faint, so the Eagle and Sticks may be an overstamp on a refinished stock which lost the acceptance mark during that process.

Nice rifle (Winchester bbl) and nice stock.
