I have read that the gi bipods can hurt the splines on your gas system from extended use, does anyone know on average how many rounds it would take hurt the gas system ?
I have a M2 bipod on my select fire M1A. I've fired thousands of rounds in automatic with the M2 bipod in place. I've seen no damage to the barrel or gas cylinder splines. The gas cylinder exterior surface does get "smushed" where the jaws clamp on at the rear.
I have shot many rounds with this type of bipod with no damage to the barrel spines. But that's assuming that the gas assembly is installed properly and tight with no movement.
