I have access to a metallurgy facility that can do heat treat and cryo-treat.

I have 3 unmarked bolts- presumably Polytech/Norinco- and one coming.

Only one checks out lower than 50 HRW on the gauges at the facility.

I can get the bolts re-heat treated, nitrided, or cryogenic dip.

Which would you do ?

None of the above.

I would buy US made bolts and set the Chinese aside to look at.
I think I have a hand full in a drawer in the workshop from conversions done 20 years ago.

Re-heat treating precision parts rarely works out well enough to be worth it.

Cryogenically treating them will not improve the core hardness, ie the strength.
