I’ve never fired it. Been sitting in the safe since built. That’s why I might just “un-build” it.

I’ve been into collecting military firearms for some time, I’m just not a range guy. I’ve had many that I never fired. Guess I look at them more like fine art.

That's cool. Seems to be more and more non shooters lately. Still a very nice looking rifle.

Range guy or not, that’s not something I would part with. If you don’t like shooting a rifle that pretty would be on full display if I were the owner. There is something that just looks right about the m40a1.

Yeah, it is a thing of beauty. But, I have another 6 digit receiver that I’m thinking of building into a Vietnam era USMC M40. I’m more into Vietnam era stuff now. And, that one I might just shoot.

One thing I like about the modern day sniper rifles is the detachable magazine. Never did like internal magazines. It makes reloads take too long. I wonder why they gave the M-40 an internal magazine?

What’s the designation of the modern day rifle you are referring to?

There are so many sniper rifles with detachable magazines I am thinking about. A few are the Barrett Mark 22 Advanced Sniper Rifle, the M-40A6 and the Knight's Armament M-110.

Hello, Well, Only my opinion, is.
A good shooter shouldn't need more than one round to get the job done. The other four rounds, are for the "just in case" or secondaries... but, I could be wrong.

BoltAction, multiple hostiles are a possible reason for quick reloads with detachable magazines. No modern day sniper rifles the United States are purchasing have internal magazines anymore to my knowledge. But the original poster does not want to discuss this any further so I will leave.

Thats really a nice rife !! It would be a shame to part out, but the money it would generate in a part out could be worth it if your not going to shoot it..
I have one being built at GA Precision now. Still looking for the MRT sling to add to my scope..
