So, I'll ask the stupid question; what are they?
They do have a very interesting look to them.

I think they are Spanish FR 8 rifles, they were Mauser bolt actions modernized to NATO 7.62mm.

Actually a handsome pair, I wouldn’t mind having one…

They were reworked in the interm until there was enough CETME rifles to issue all troops. FR 7 or 8 depending on being a small ring or large ring Mauser, notice the flash hider and sights? Most I’ve seen back when being sold as surplus were worn out, and going for less than a few bills in Shotgun News…

Died in the tower in the background.Rich Gideon Long Island. NY., I carried him down. Kontum Jan. and Feb 1968. Lost two more in the bunker under the tower to a small recoiless rifle in the 40mm to 50mm range. John Rodriguez, Santa Maria . CA. Didn't know the last guy, from a unit that took shelter with us. I just remember he was young and brave as hell. Lost an ear next to me to AK or RPD round. It just made him pissed off. Second night of TET.
