In the never ending quest to shoot a tighter group I dug up a trigger pull weight tester and measured my socom pull weight at 5.75 pounds.

Anybody else tested their rifle at (what seems to me anyway) a high weight but mastered it and manage to shoot well?

Besides the low power scope I use I am thinking time to have some trigger work done for finer shooting

Just measured some pistols.

With rifles sometimes a heavier pull weight isn't so noticeable - if it breaks clean. A draggy, gravely trigger is just terrible.

Then again, I had one AR15 that after an afternoon of shooting I would notice (the next day) that the tip of my trigger finger would be sore/tender. The trigger was so hard to pull that I was keeping constant tension on it, not enough to fire it, but somewhere between none and enough to fire it.

I replaced that trigger with a RRA trigger. Nice!

Battle rifles should have a strong pull but you can go down to 4.5 but any lower you risk doubles.

How does it 'feel'? M1s I compete with (2) are both breaking about 5.25# but one mid 50's HRA with SA trigger group is smooth as silk, other a 42SA with Winchester trigger group is 'hard' break, measure same on gauge. The 42SA adj down any further begins to flunk some of the safety tests. Lots of good info if you do search on trigger work.....Go SLOOOOOW!

Focusing on my sight picture and follow through keeps me from thinking about the pull weight on my Socom.

The mil spec standard for trigger weight in the M1 and M14 rifle is 4.5 to 7 pounds. 5.75 pounds is within standard limits. Triggers in competition (NM) rifles must not be lighter than 4.5 pounds.
