Received this from Mike Sadlak........

Mike Sadlak said:
Hi Hawk,

Just thought I would let you know that Dee (aka Righthand) hurt her left thumb very seriously (broken adn cut bad) on Sat. on a sharp object. Reports from the front line say that she got into a firefight with a falling heavy shelf and a wall with a sharp object hanging from it and while the enemy (aka shelf) took a beating she never-the-less recieved a bad battlewounds. With no one around, she bandaged herself up with a towel and drove herself about 8 miles to the rear first aid station to seek out a medic. Not wanting to bother anyone, she drove around the parking lot at the ER looking for a place to park. She finally found one quite a distance away and made it in with soaked towel and all. the ER was great and patched her up as best they could with a followup on Tue to set it more permanately. I found out today (Mon) this afternoon when she visited the shop to say she might be a little late for work on Tue as she is in a little pain. She a tough army brat's general's daughter. So how about the M14TFL crew help cheer her up and say a little pray for a speedy recover.

Thanks

Mike Sadlak

I was asking Mike about a spring guide a while back and he ask me how I had heard of Sadlak. All I said was "Righthand".

Get well fast.

Good Luck!

I had a run-in with a table saw in '03. Still have all digits, but I sure do know it when the weather changes....

Well, it appears the bone was crushed rather than broken so there isn't much they will do until the wound heals. Bone is separated but the ends can't be put back together. Wonder what they did for Humpty Dumpty? The thumb was nearly amputated so they sewed me up with a dozen stitches at the ER. Now it's just healing time. Dr. said that we will have to decide on pin/plate to bone later and depending on how it functions without surgery. Did I mention the wonders of Percocet??? I haven't slept like that in years. I don't normally take meds so that one knocked me for a loop. I have a few more left but if it doesn't get any worse, I can flush those. Thanks for the good wishes.

Find a specialist that you're comfortable with, and follow their instructions to the letter. It's quite possible that you'll regain most use of the digit. If surgery is called for, find out as much as you can before making that decision.

Good luck, and best wishes for a full and speedy recovery. DI5

Thanks for the advice on the specialist JR. I will follow directed to the letter. I'm sure I can "adapt and overcome" whatever the outcome.

Dee, I sure hope you are right handed. I am and had a severe cut in the middle of my palm after falling on a grass whip. Couldn't use my right hand for several weeks as it was close to rendering my thumb useless. Had to learn to write with my left hand. I think I was 12. Hard as heck to play drums with one hand back then.GI2
