I picked up a stripped frame yesterday. I need this like another hole in my head.GI3 I had seen the ads for kits at Sarco for a parts kit cheap and just wanted to see if I could build a dirt cheap 1911. So I get home and jump online to buy my kit. They are still listed, but not available. They have a kit, but with no slide or barrel.
The question is where can I find something similar to those surplus kits? I have some high end 1911's and know first hand how much change can be spent. I want something cheap.

With your talent and access to machine tools I think this would be a great project for you. I'll look forward to reading how this project is coming along Memphis!

But probably shooting yourself in the foot, the cat, or the refrigerator. USN3

Glocks should be neutered, . . . and retro-fitted for 10 oz of water, . . . and relegated to squirt gun competition.

May God bless,
Dwight

Or melted down into odd little green colored drink coasters......of course ol Gaston would be credited with an ugly but dependable drink coaster used by 60% of law enforcement......

Save yer money and DO NOT buy the Sarco kit! I bought a few of their kits years ago and simply would not ~ could not use some of the parts. These were supposedly from stripped down Brazillian military 1911A1's. But the parts were an odd mix of foreign military (I think) , and assorted cheap commercial in both blue and stainless.

Two of the slides were very good. They were ex-Brazillian military , made by Imbel/Itajuba , which are the same slides provided to Springfield Inc. Others had no markings at all and were very thick. Sounded cast when I tapped them. The barrels were new "Roto-something" and they also looked like the ones Numrich used to sell and use in their Auto-Ordnance pistols. Some grips screws were buggered parkerized , others were new blued , but the heads all had different heights. 2 grip screw bushings were blue , 2 were stainless. Slide stop had a weird checkering , and the thumb safety looked like a real hack with a Dremel tried to fit it. Trigger was a 3-hole aluminum. Barrel bushing was blue but way too big for barrel. Tab looked filed. Sear and disconnector were junk. Pins were assorted blue , park'd and stainless.

It really looked like a bunch of parts from a junk drawer.

I am really careful what I get from Sarco
Some of their stuff is iffy and imported from who knows where

I just had this debate with myself a short time ago and decided to buy a RIA for a beat around truck gun and build a better unit with Wilson or other high end maker components
