The "Heavyweights" of Luftwaffe

I share with you a report showing a fantastic collection of photos of aircraft designed during the Second World War to bring war and destruction far beyond German borders. However, all of them did not pass the stage of prototypes and testing. What do you think if these planes had been built in quantity? They would have changed the course of the war? Visit the link, see the photos and give your opinion through the poll at the end of the article.

Interesting. I just finished reading "A Higher Call" by Adam Makos and it paints a very detailed picture of the air war in Europe from a Luftwaffe fighter pilot's perspective.

I don't think these airplanes would have changed the outcome of the war, because the Axis' leadership was so strategically inept, not to mention insane. I'm quite sure they would have prolonged the war & gotten more people killed though.

My opinion is that while the Germans were undeniably technically superior to any other country during that time, there's a lot more to producing an effective heavy bomber than building a really great plane, and they did not invest in the necessary R&D to learn how to do it. A parallel situation in the present day is the inability of the Russians and the Chinese to field a truly operational aircraft carrier.

All of those were brought about by the demonstrated deficiencies of the Luftwaffe. By the time the Luftwaffe demonstrated its deficiencies, it was too late....

And too be honest, part of their problem was the super advanced projects they had been working on. All of that theoretical work they did takes time, and trained engineering personnel, time and personnel that probably should have been used to streamline current production.

For example, the US had Bell and Westinghouse working on jets so the big plants could turn out vast quantities of adequate current production. Incidentally, Westinghouse went zero to flight testing a jet engine in the span of 15 months, with no outside information on British jet developments due to strict secrecy.
