Saw one of these "z" carry
handle mounts on some IDF M4's and thought I would try one. It is a bit weird looking! 20rd mag works better for me on bench rest shooting.

This one I built for fence-jumpers in full gallop during escape from home invasions - the buttstock is solid from a CA-legal buffer tube...about 1/8" of metal sticks out of the back of plastic so the face will break and not the plastic during 'heavy use'....red dot sight Romeo7. Colt 14.5" heavy M4 barrel/ spot-welded extended nose to ATF legal. Geissele SD3G trigger. Something simple - USGI flavor is my favorite.

.... I've heard that AGB's are mandatory on AR-10s. Never used one on any of my AR-15's...
I had not heard that adjustable gas was required for AR-10s.

I know that 300BLK was designed (proper size gas orifice) to handle supers, subs, suppressed, unsuppressed with no gas adjustment, but that it "might" be necessary for 5.56 or other calibers. That said, I've used 3 different PSA .308 uppers on two different lowers both suppressed and unsuppressed with no issues. Even suppressed, none seemed overgassed. I used a SCO Saker 762, Rugged Surge and Razor, Q Half and Full Nelson, and Thunder Beast Ultra 7 and 9. This was all standard ammo, so the only consideration was overgassing/buffeting. I haven't done hundreds of rounds in each configuration, but in the several dozen or so I did fire, I saw no issues.

The only time I've had an issue where I could have used an adjustable gas block was on a Tromix 12.5" 458 SOCOM upper with SBR subsonic ammo. It was not entirely reliable unsuppressed, but suppressed with either a Liberty Goliath or Bowers Dreadnaught, it ran like clockwork. The Black Butterfly subsonic was reliable suppressed or unsuppressed, as well as all the SBR and Black Butterfly supers. The easy solution to this is to only shoot the SBR subsonic suppressed...which really is the point of subsonic ammo to begin with.

So I've not used an AGB on any of my AR's, regardless of caliber and not had significant issues. Your milage may vary.
