Talked to Ron Smith today................

Hi all,

I had a long talk with Ron of Smith Enterprise today. As I was talking to him about building my LRB into a Bush Rifle he told me about a few new products he's selling that were being used by the U.S. Navy.

The first is a "Direct connect Vortex Flash Hider" $75.00 . Since I live in "The Peoples Republic of" I'll have to pass on that one until I can effect an escape from here  .

The other is a "M-14 H&K Type Front Sight" for a Bush/Scout rifle. It is attached to the Gas Cylinder Lock and also goes for $75.00. I don't think he has pictures of them on his site yet, so I'm going on Ron's description to have him install one on my LRB M-14 Bush 8) . Building a new rifle is better than Christmas :D .

Oh! Almost forgot the most important part of our conversation..... He stated that once the Iraq thing winds down and he has time He's going to build a Limited Run of 100 Forged M-14 Receivers 8O . It will be first come first serve and he's taking Pre-orders by E mail only. He's storing them in a data base. I'm #1  . He says the price will be around $1,000.00

Hope I got it all correct? Maybe now would be a good time to enter a disclaimer??

Hey warbird, great collection!!! 8O

One question... are a few of those SA bolts non-USGI?

azski
Howdy azski:

All those bolts are USGI.The SA bolt marked 7790185-SA Y02 is an early M14 bolt.Notice the 5 on the end of the federal stock number instead od 6.
I also have a new H&R bolt with the same number. 8)

These parts are only a fraction of the parts I have in the warehouse.Man,If I took a picture of the boxes of M14 parts I have in the warehouse you guys would droooool for a year.Come to think of it,I may have to do that. :D

It's not everyday you get to see a small warehouse full of M14 parts.I've had to keep the location a secret because of the value.I think it's in the neighborhood of about $50,000-$60,000.I'm trying to find time to sort thru more of the goodies. With hunting season here it may not be untill next year. :p

By the way,the barrels are not for sale (unless I find more) since I need to keep a couple for spares.I wish I had 100 more.I do have most of the other parts though except flashiders.

There's some demilled parts in the mix and I need to sort out the good stuff.

I don't think anybody loves the M14 as much as I do.I hope it shows :D

Fly high,shoot low and you'll hit'em every time.warbird

I didn't think you were turning loose of any barrels.
Thanks for the info! I didn't know that.

I'm on the list to buy one of Ron Smith's receivers. What's the chance of buying a bolt and gas system from you? :D  I have a barrel, op rod and trigger group in the safe.

Aloha Warbird:

Man, I am "stoked" just looking at those that you posted! Drooling rivers over here!

Please put me on your list for any "left overs" that you might want to let go!

Aloha,

Tom O.
Well, I slept on it. I decided that a Smith Enterprise rifle is a must for my collection, so I jumped on board with a pre-order. I figure that if I didn't do it I would be kicking myself for a long time.

OK, here's a question - will these be double lugged receivers? All of the forged SmithEnt receivers I've seen (4 of them - all owned by a local gent who steadfastly refuses to sell me one  ) are double (rear) lugged.

I'm really not interested in a double lugged receiver given a choice.

Edit: Just realized that I was probably being stupid & confusing here. by "double lugged" I actually meant "rear lugged". Sorry...

I have a Cast Smith M-14 which is double lugged and a Forged Smith M-14 that is a rear lug only.... I didn't think to ask if they would be lugged or not. I'd actually want one without lug so I can change stocks if I want to.

Greg
Me too. For me, the whole idea of having a forged receiver is to have something as close to a real M14 as possible.

I understand that he'll need to support the match shooter market though. Hopefully he'll make some standard receivers as well.
Got this in reply to my e-mail:

Thanks, we will keep this on file. By the way, the receivers will be made of barstock.
What exactly does this mean? Anyone?

Same reply here  :?:
I don't know
But, if it will make you feel better, I wrote an e-mail question to Mr. Smith once myself, and got a far more confusing answer than you did :)

I hear he's much better on the phone :)
My reply was much simpler "Thanks, we will keep this on file"
receiver made of bar stock will be made the same as the chinese receivers, machined from a forged billet. this is not the same as drop forged.
Entreprise Arms M14A2 receivers are machined form a solid billet. Maybe ABNI is going to make the receivers for Smith, to Ron Smith's specs.,like the Fulton Armory receivers, made to Clint's spec's, by ArmsCorp.

Talked to Ron Smith today part II

I finally was able to talk with Ron not Bill. You guys must be slacking since i got through  I finaly asked him about my reciever and he said no problems with it at all. Then he said your rifle is one beauty Functions flawlessly and they took extra care with it. Man am I really stoked. You guys that know metal correct me I am takeing a shot at this from what Ron wanted me to get out there. He is making a NM rear site out wire heated EDM Billet from 4140 steel. Just like on the original M14 and this hasnt been done Since 1963. Also scopes rings with 1" inserts made the same way. Of course just like the recievers its not cheap but will be high quality. There I have said. WARNING LABLE: Please dont flame the messanger.
Can't wait to see your rifle 8O .

Greg
I will second that. It has to be a thing a beauty. Please take lots of pics.
Hey steve k, I just might have to take a ride over to Ron's shop this week and get a sneak peek!

azski
