the indians used to dig out the inside of their shelter and place overlapping flat stones down with a fire pit in the middle then bury all the stones. when they had a fire in the pit it would xfer all the heat throughout the buried stones causing the floor to be warm...
its alot of work but its worth it when its cold outside..
