Storing rifles in a safe

1476 9
Is it OK to store a rifle in your safe muzzle down?

The reason I ask is that if I store a few like that, it gives me more room to put additional in rifles. I don't want to harm the rifle, so I thought it would be a good question to ask.

So, any ideas? Can storing a rifle or two muzzle down do anything to it?

i've got more than few that are stored that way. they all seem to shoot fine. i can usually get about 33% more guns in the safe than what the listed maximum is by alternating muzzle-up and muzzle-down.

i read somewhere it is best to store any gun muzzle down, because the oil will run out instead of into the stock(softening the wood). every one of mine is stored muzzle down.

Muzzle down here, too; just make sure they rest on carpet or something soft and absorbent.

muzzle down-yes. But not resting on the flash hider or muzzle. Mine are suspended. Also helps to keep the dust (cough, cough) out.
