Would an aperture or globe front sight be legal, for example the Alley front sight? It says on the rules iron sights only. I am referring to the Springfield M1A match at Camp Perry.

It may put you in the category with the SOCOMs.......you can shoot the match with them but you won't be eligible for prizes. I don't know that for a fact though.

M1A/M14's are not classified as Match Rifles, but Service Rifles and believe addition of such a sight as you mention would take you out of Service Rifle class. Even if you shot a perfect score, and as mentioned, would be DQ'd due to equipment modification. My understanding is quite dated and perhaps the rules of changed??

No there not legal on Service Rifles, a globed or aperture front sight will put you in the Match rifle class with the bolt gunners.
