Hello all!
In the process of getting my first M14 and having trouble deciding on what model to get. Already ordered an Fde EBR chassis from us-tactical but that will take months to get here, although that is the final plan. My plan for the rifle is long range (500-1000) plinker just to have fun with, no competitions or anything. I am no professional by any means and definitely want to do a 22 inch barrel. I hear the Springfield loaded m1a is a solid option dropped into the EBR chassis, but we’ve all seen the questions about their cast receivers and build quality. I’ve also heard great things about Fulton and their builds. I just want a quality build that I can enjoy and can last me long term. Bula opinions seem to be divided and not sure if I can justify the pricing of an LRB. I would say I wouldn’t want to spend more than 5k all said and done (1600 into the chassis already)

So with that said a couple questions:

1.Would you prefer the M1A loaded or a Fulton variant for the EBR chassis?

2. Will I have any trouble/need to modify anything while mounting into the chassis? Or would I be better off sending to a gunsmith?

3. Any other recommendations/thoughts as I am a total beginner to the m14 world.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

What's wrong with the factory stock? I'd save the money on the EBR stock for a good scope and mount. I shoot 600-800 yards with my Loaded model, dead stock action have a Fulton Brookfield DMR mount and Millett scope, total investment about $2300. Shoots 7" groups at 600 yards, that's 1-1/4 MOA.

That's an 8" gong to the left of the plate, for reference.

Nice shooting! And good looking gun.

Nothing wrong with the factory stock, just always dreamed of an Ebr since I was a kid. Looks like the loaded m1a is a pretty solid choice

EBR is super cool but super heavy from my understanding. Question is are you looking for cool or plain accuracy? I can’t say much, my best rifle is about 13 lbs but heavy barrel and bedded stock. Follow your dreams

Really just want something that looks cool and I can be proud of! All I want to do is hit steel out to 800 or so and have fun doing it. I’m expecting it to be pretty heavy but don’t plan on shooting much without a bipod.

Did you make your choice?
So cool!

Haven’t made a choice yet but leaning toward a Springfield so I can put extra $$ toward sights and whatnot. I’m no professional so I don’t think I’ll notice a big difference between the Fulton and the m1a, but almost need to shoot each before buying one.

Something to consider, purchasing a Springfield would get you punching paper and ringing steel much sooner than, getting in a production queue and or waiting for other parts.

Checkout the results that @Lacie8899# punched with a lightly tuned M1A Standard....
Then, when your Sage Chassis arrives, you will already have baseline M1A performance data to use as a comparison.

Wishing you the best in your adventure.

Edit to add another pic...

Fulton or LRB in a Sage would be my choice. If you're going all-out...

I would also personally choose a Sadlak EBR mount which has the front rail sections removed to allow for the SAGE picatinny rail.

I personally bought the standard m1a, installed an EBR stock, and shoot the hell out of it. If I’m shooting for precision I grab a precision rifle. The m1a ebr is plenty accurate to hit targets out to 750. The wind is your biggest problem. If I didn’t carry a m14EBR in Afghanistan I probably would have went with the 6.5 because it just flat out performs better in the wind. I have all these calibers in bolt guns so it wasn’t a hard choice for me.
At some point I may ship it south to Tony if I want more out of it but for right now it’s a wonderful rifle with lots of nostalgia to it. A member here even shipped me a case of LC m118LR head stamped 11(which was the ammo I shot deployed). This website is incredible btw.
