Finally getting ready to take the plunge and buy or have built an M1A. My first thought was to buy a springfield standard model but then I see an add in shotgun news by an outfit called LRB out of Long Island that makes Forged recievers. I really like the idea of a forged reciever. Anybody out hter have any feedback on this company? Would it be worth the extra trouble and $$ to have a rifle built around one of these forged recievers?

Glad you decided to join the crew. Lots of good folks here and I'm sure you'll get all the info you need to make the right decision on your purchase.

FWIW - For general shooting, plinking and varmints, you can't go too far wrong with a Springfield. Some folks have had some QC problems with them and some folks (like me) have shot them for quite a while with no problems at all.

You can customize, modify or dress up your basic rifle the way you want to. Just get some good manuals (visit the Intel section), buy some spare parts (you'll need them anyway, no matter which rifle you decide on) and jump right in. We'll be here to lend a helping hand in case you have trouble. :wink: :wink: :wink:

If you are going into M14/M1A shooting and don't want to have the fun of doing the modifications yourself make your rifle an excellent shooter, then LRB and a custom build is a good way to go. LRB owners are a really happy crowd.

Check around the forums and you will find some excellent folks who can really put out some fine quality custom work that anyone would be proud to own. There are also some other companies that build M1As so be sure to check them out also before you make up your mind.:mrgreen:

The really cool thing about owning an M1A is that you can have fun with them on and off the range. There are some many good mods you can do, you can truly create your very own "custom" rifle if you want to.

Just remember, M1A's are like herd animals - they don't like being alone. :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: The empty spots in your gun safe have a way of filling up over time.

I really dont know what to tell you Bigcheese, It all depends on your cicumstances, I was looking at a LRB Receiver to put on a complete TRW Rifle a while back but I couldent bring myself to spend $900 on a Receiver for a Standard Rifle. Let me tell you this a good cast Receiver will outlast you, so I sent My Barrel to Fulton Armory to have them screw on one of theirs( ARMSCORP), that way if there is something wrong with it they will take care without me getting involved. However if you insist on having a forged Receiver go for it, There are some Members here and on BR next door that have LRBs and seem to like them very much, maybe you'll get some input from one of them.

Pretty is as pretty does (thanks Gumps Momma ). I have an Armscorp preban & a PolyTech preban. Both are fine recievers. I would not hessitate to own others, but this is what I have and function & accuracy is great. You will run across the one you can't pass up, followed by more.

DuckBucks's advice is excellent.(so are the other responses). The statement that they don't like to be alone is very true. You will need more of them as time goes by. Also, buy more ammo than you think you could ever need. M1As are hungry and good surplus7.62x51 is cheap now. Enjoy the rifle and the good company here and on Battlerifles forum.
