So I have some optics installed finally. Thanks for the member who pointed me in the right direction for righ height.

I'm zeroed but the best group I can get is 2 MOA.

I'm shooting a 150 gr Sierra Spitzer with 40 grains of IMR3031 and a CCI LR primer. COAL is 2.890.

I really think the load has some issues as a few rounds were FTE.

Is this the accuracy I should expect out of this rifle?

I have had great success with 168 BTHP over 42.0 RL15, COL 2.80 Just my recipe.

Your load is pretty light and is most likely the cause of your FTE's. Socom's suffer from a lack of port pressure.

Your COAL is pretty long, I am surprised they fit in your magazine without rubbing.

2 moa is outstanding for any standard M14 pattern rifle.

Here I thought I'd find a kindred soul to commiserate with; my socom just shipped back to Springfield 'cause the best I (or anyone else, with any ammo) could get out of it was 7MOA. And the bolt roller fell off.

2 MOA and you're unhappy? Sheesh.

I'm awaiting the right shims to arrive. But as a field expedient method I made some from beer cans. I know...It's , but it worked.

I suspected the load was light. And even 168 FMHBT in bulk to buy, but wanted to get on paper.

It's good to know that this is expectable with this rifle. Now I can relax and begin working out a more consistent load.

I thought the COL was long too. I'm not sure where I got that length. But they feed reliably.

That load is plenty powerful to get reliable ejection. Make sure the rifle functions with factory ammo. If so, check your reloaded rounds in a head space gauge.

confirm your OAL; 2.800 is the generally accepted “mag length” loading, some increase it a little, and the Hornady 150’s call for a shorter OAL.

2 MOA is alright, and you may have gotten to the projectile’s potential max accuracy. I’ve yet to have better than 2 MOA out of a 145-150 grain pill, but everything was FMJ, I’ve not tried some decent hunting projectiles or 155 grain match bullets.

With better projectiles I’ve gotten 1.25 MOA, that was repeatable / 5 shot. 1.5MOA in a 10 shot group.

This was 39.0 grains of IMR 3031, commercial cases, sorted by head stamp, 1x fired, Win LR primers, 175 grain SMK blems loaded to ~2.799 - 2.801” I’ve gotten similar results with lake city brass. <-- recipe found on the internet, so it must be good, right?

Shots were taken from a caldwell adjustable rifle rest, using a 1-4x scope. The 5 shot groups were at least 10 seconds between shots. The 10 shot groups longer and no more than 2 shots in a row without me breaking the process so I wouldn’t get impatient.

That's about what I would expect in a standard stock setup.
It's not a match rifle.

A loaded model gets you down to 1.5 generally. But that's a NM barrel and trigger.
What are your expectations?

Going to be very difficult doing much better than that with a 4x optic.

SOCOM- A weapon, not a target rifle. Made for close quarter fighting. 4" at 100 yards = off target 3" at 150 yards. Target acquired and terminated!
