Most roofing contractors only buy the long nails. But the framers that sheathed the roof have pretty poor aim.

Amazing , joist hangers in place of rafter hurricane straps and even screwed those up. DIYer probably did the research like google boy and screwed it up too. If you don't know something it only makes sense to ask someone with experience that does. False pride can kill.

I was wondering if the rafters are bearing on anything else out of the picture. Still not proper. You have to figure there are many other ways to properly achieve what they were going for than using upside down joist hangers.
