I'm looking at ways to mount a Surefire Scout light to my SAI Scout rifle. My plan is to use a 45* adapter or offset mount, on the factory optic rail. Anyone have any pictures of this, or any other ideas? I've seen the clamp deals that go on the end of the barrel, but I'm not a huge fan of that, but I want the best set up I can get.

Get the Versapod rail that replaces the front sling swivel. They make 2 versions, one for wood and fiberglass stocks and one for the factory polymer.

Nothing good ever came from hanging something off of an M14 barrel. They have enough problems trying to be accurate. RNGR2

I want a light because I go camping in an area where there is a LOT of criminal activity, in the middle of the woods, at night, where there are shady people roaming around, I want to be able to identify my target.

After looking around, I'm pretty set on the Versa Pod sling mount rail with a Streamlight TLR1HPL.

Not the cheapest option, but you could install something like a VLTOR CASV rail and then there are lots of good offset mounts you could use off the picatinny. Gear Sector, American Defense Manufacturing, Arisaka, Surefire, Haley Strategic all make solid offset scout mounts for the SureFire M300/600 or Streamlight ProTac rail mounts.

I wish the Surefire XC1 had a higher output because that would be a perfect low profile light for any long gun. And if it could accept a pressure switch/tall cap I would but up a ton and never look at another light ever again.

, I'm afraid that that crap is spreading to other parts of our country. Pretty soon "honesty" won't even be in the dictionary any more. Just be real careful as that light will make you a beautiful target if they have someone laying back.

A good option that wont break the bank is to get a 3" or 5" section of Magpul MOE rail and mount it on the side of the forend (just countersink the nuts so they dont contact the gas cylinder or barrel and blue loctite definitely cant hurt). You could do a second one for a tape switch if you wanna go that route.

Oregon is a beautiful state. You certainly have the right to defend yourself anywhere you are but it might be easier, simpler and safer to find someplace else to camp?? Why go to an area with known problems when there are likely many other options in a state as beautiful as Oregon?

If you waste someone, even if it's determined to be justified, you are certainly going to have to deal with the criminal justice system. Based on what I've read, Oregon is not generally a gun friendly state.

I've been camping in the area I'm talking about for years, long before the problems started. I refuse to let some criminals run me out of where I want to go. I keep to myself and don't start problems, but I make sure I always have the means to protect myself, family and belongings.

Belongings won't cut it in a court of law if you shoot someone. Why take your family into a known, dangerous place? I don't care how long you've been going to the place. Common sense and the general idea of protecting the ones you love should prevail. Why take them into a place where you presume there will be trouble? That is plain and simple negligence

I agree , moe rail came with my Ag composites stock . Simple , inexpensive and solid lightweight mount .
