Scope mounts on out of spec Springfield's

924 2
I know we have discussed the problems mounting scope mounts on late model Springfield's. On both of my Springfield's the receiver mounting hole is to far back or the stripper clip guide area is to far forward so when you try to mount it, it tilts forward because it hits the stripper clip guide area instead of having a small gap between the mount and the stripper clip guide area.

Has anyone with this problem successfully overcome this and mounted a Smith mount on theirs?

Would machining a couple hundredths off the back of the mount take care of the problem?

Warbird or (Ted?) Brown, have either of you ever dealt with this?

Thanks.

The mount hole in the receiver should be in line with the verticle alignment slot in the receiver. You did not say what type of mount you are using. It may be the mount or the clip slot adapter at fault.

Smith mounts work fine on receivers like that. Contact NOEXPERT for advice on it. He tried to modify the arms mount to work but when it came down to it the receiver is just made out of spec and no amount of tweeking the mount will make it work. The smith has a greater degree of adjustment for the screw hole and should work fine.
