Anyone here have any experience with these semi-auto AK-based scatterguns?

I bought a Saiga-12 about two years ago. I've shot a variety of different ammo through it and it has handled everything from light target loads to 3" magnum buckshot. You do have to switch the gas system from "1" to "2" to use the different loads but it's easy to do.

One thing I have found is if you leave a loaded magazine in the gun for any length of time the top shell gets kind of flattened due to the magazine spring forcing the shell against the closed bolt. I have since bought a couple boxes of Russian steel shells to use for home defense.

I used the gun a couple of times on the sporting clays range and shot a 50 and a 51 with it. Not bad for a cylinder bore and 19" barrel.

All in all, I have been pleased with the gun. It's typically AK with a bum safety and etc. but it does seem to be rugged and dependable.

I recently picked up a Saiga-12, and converted it to pistol grip / AK configuration with US compliance parts (FCG, PG, butt stock), a red dot, and probably some other odds and ends yet to come. Fired it for the first time today with some 3" magnum stuff, some 2 3/4" hot hunting loads, and some LE buckshot loads. Everything cycled fine but the reduced power LE loads. They would be OK if the gas valve were set to position 2, I think. It is a bit stout on the recoil even with a buffer, but nothing that can't be dealt with. 8)
