SAI did make a "few" transferable select fire M14's. Some of the "full auto" parts are different from the USGI M14's. I believe one major difference is the selector switch mounting post or "stud". A GI switch will not work on a SAI M14 and vice versa. The difference is the mounting "stud" or "post" diameter.

FWIW

Question for those with the class iiii's. Where can you shoot them, does it have to be a rifle range or can it be used on National Forrest land? In CA, ranges prohibit FA, and I thought the National Forrest was a nogo.

The only differences between select fire USGI M14 and SAI M1A receivers and parts are:

1) The SAI M1A selector lug is welded to the receiver whereas the USGI selector lug is an integral part of the forging

2) The SAI M1A receiver operating rod rail forward underside groove is 0.030" narrower than the USGI receiver dimension

3) The SAI M1A connector operating rod rail tab is 0.030" narrower than the USGI connector operating rod rail tab.

I know this because I used to own a select fire SAI M1A and examined the receiver and select fire parts.

Addition to my post above:

4) USGI receivers were forged whereas SAI receivers were machined from castings.

5) Receiver heel markings were different, of course, e.g., M14 versus M1A, serial numbers start with "0" on the SAI receivers, etc.
