Hello all, I'm using a second hand synthetic SAI stock while I fit and refinish a USGI fiberglass stock. I have a nice walnut stock but don't want to bang it up in the field, yet Im not all that happy with the SAI as it leaves the elevation knob exposed and feels thin to me in places.

The SAI stock has no front swivel for a 1903 sling and requires machine screws (not rivets) to hold the swivel. Does anyone know the thread type/count for the SAI swivel screws?

You can use any screw and nut you want. I would try in the 1/8 in dia. As to the length you would take a Dremel and cut off the excess. I have used the SAI screws and they are too long. No sense in sending SAI a lot of money for the screws and shipping; just go to your local hardware store.

Front Swivel Hardware

I use 10-32 x 1/2" Pan Head screws [hex head] for wood stocks and 10/32 x 3/8" for fiberglass stocks. You can match the Pan Head Screws with T-Nuts.

Go to you local Ace Hardware if you have one and they will have them in the hardware area in the trays of special [screws, nuts, etc]. Some of the T-nuts have the tabs and you will need to bend those off [I grind mine down as well so they fit to the bottom of the stock and sit very low - no interference with the gas system]. It will look good and function fine.

They are in fact 10-32.

I have flat socket head screws I can send you. Black oxide finish. They are long, so they will need to be cut.

Give the factory a call, tell them you lost your screws. Maybe they will send you a couple for free.

Thanks guys, I'll pick up some pan head 10-32 (hex or torx) and shorten as needed.

The SAI synthetic stock is actually a nice affordable stock that fits the action well. If it had a better fit in my hands I'd likely keep and not rework the USGI fiberglass stock.
