Posted earlier that I aquired this rifle a week ago.......took it out yesterday
and loaded up some new BRW mags from ammoman......ammo was 1979 Port. Upon firing the first mag, the rifle faied to extract/eject more than a few times.....yes, I did install a GI extractor spring and plunger prior to shooting. I tried to swithch mags and the same problem persisited......the rifle was detailed stripped and properly lubricated prior to shooting.......the rifle finally "broke" in after about 100 rounds.......after that, no hang ups.......thought it could be the ammo but the rifle is bone new out of the box......I will try some newer aussie next week and see what happens......anyone else have this problem with new rifles?........thanks again

sounds as though the chamber might have been a tad rough and after a hundred rounds smoothed out.
The bbl is a USGI H-R 1962 unit that cam with the rifle............
Was the rifle short cycling (leaving an empty chamber or spent round left in the chamber)? Or was it failing to extract and jamming the next round?

Had you messed w/ the gas system before you shot?
Failing to extract and jamming the next round......after about 100 rounds it cleared up. I rotated mags but all were NIW BRW and performed identical.

Hmm... Glad it cleared up. I posted some stuff to check over on the same thread at BR.com.

One thing I didn't say there was to make sure to clean your chamber well. I like to use the USGI ratchet chamber brush (actually, the Sinclair Int'l version of the same which is improved).

Aloha Milsurp:

If it cleared up, excellent! But it persisted, I would also recommend checking the gas port size.

I think Different and Kalani were shooting a new rifle that exhibitied similar problems and when it didn't go away after checking everything obvious, they looked at the gas port which, IIRC, was a tad small.

Glad everything worked out.

Aloha,
