I have a shooting buddy who is growing his M1 Garand collection and is looking for a Springfield Armory (Geneseo) Garand in the 7 million serial number range. He found one at a LGS for $1200 firm!! sounds high to me. are these cast receiver M1's really starting to be that valuable? Anyone have one for sale?

In the past I owned (3) different SAI 7,000,000 range M1s. All three had problems. One was a tanker that shoot 12" high at 100 yards. One was long on headspace and the other suffered feeding problems. You think I would have learned my lesson after the first one.

he is better off getting one from CMP, less money and its USGI.
He knows it's SAI. He already owns a Win, International Harvester, HRA, and a 500,000 SA. It doesn't appear CMP are selling any more 30-06 (only .308 for $1030) until they catch up with their backorders. And then will they ever have any more? And what might the price be? I was just curious if the value on even the Geneseo rifles has risen. Does anyone know of any being sold. If so how much? By the way, I have owned one since 2012 (serial 7,005,) and have put several thousand down range with no problems. USNA

The last one I purchased was about 5 months ago. I paid $750.00 for it. It had a SA 1952 barrel that appeared as new and gun was 95%.

I purchased one new about 30 years ago for $650 IIRC. Std grade 30-06.

Shot well, used it in local 100 and 200 NMC events. Had a hooded aperture installed, that was about it. Was shooting marksman scores, was me not the rifle.

Still have it, just haven't fired it in a while. Need to fix that.

I also bought one several years ago and was a big mistake. Sent it back numerous times for accuracy was terrible and just not a good rifle. Go with CMP for the Special Grade, best value out there these day for cost, excellent rifles. Not a collector item, but definitely a fine shooter in like new condition, what's not to like??
