I just finished dismounting my new (as of last Monday) and recently (as of today) defective SA 6X40 Gov't model scope. It quit on me after about 100 rounds. The reticle and crosshairs have rotated about 20 degrees counter-clockwise. I had read some bad press here about this scope, but I thought, what the heck, with a lifetime guarantee, how could I go wrong?

Well, shame on me. I should have believed what others had said. I thought that maybe a few bad scopes got out there, but by now the problem had been fixed. I was wrong. If I had paid full retail for this scope (instead of the $250 deal offered), I would have kicked myself for not spending the same money on a Leupold.

I guess I get to send it back to the factory and play the waiting game on how soon it comes back. I can only hope the one that comes back to me doesn't quit on me after 100 rounds like this one did!

Welcome to the club - brother. :x If it's any consolation, you're in good company.

I did the same thing as you and may other board members - spent good money for a junker scope thinking that it wouldn't happen to me. I didn't even get 100 rounds through mine. The first time I took the turret cap off, the graduation scale fell off.

Too bad SA can't get a grip on the QC problem with these scopes.

Hope things turn out well for you when you send it off for repairs.

youch! what was the terms of the deal, if you don't mind me asking? i got in on the old deal, which was 3rd gen mount, rings and scope for $99! $250 would get you a Burris Fulfield 2 w/$50 to go towards your ARMS/Smith mount!

Mine only lasted 15 rounds and the reticle twisted. Sent it back and they fixed it. Got it back and the bubble level was broken. So I sent it back again. Mine came with the rifle package I got at a gun store. I will never buy another POS scope from SA again. :(

Good news (so far).

I re-mounted the scope & so far have put around 400 rounds through the rifle with no more problems.

I hope that's the end of the return trips to the factory for this scope.

I hope you have better luck but I have had to send mine back 3 times now, I am really upset with the QC on these scopes, If I still could Id send mine back in for a refund, but I already threw the crap mount away.

Well I just got off the phone with SA. They have got some of the greatest customer service I have ever seen. I was told that they had to replace my scope and that they didn't have any in stock. But if I could call back every couple of months they would let me know when they get some new scopes in.

CALL BACK EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS!!! 8O

I will never buy another thing from this company :x

anybody know who is making the scopes for SA?
I have read somewhere on this forum they are made by Hakko.

FWIW, I have put another 160 rounds through the rifle I have the scope mounted on with no further problems.

It is holding zero just as it should. The SA 3rd Gen mount is doing just fine also.

Maybe my luck will hold out!

"If ya can't hear you can feel." Get your refund and by a luppy. Hell, Wal-Mart is selling the Luppy rifleman series statrting at $179.00 for the 2-7, and $240.00 for the 4-14. If you want the tactical you will pay more. AND luppies won't fail you.

When you are buying optics you have to look at how well the company stands behind them. In my experience, Leupold and Burris are the best in the business. I had a Leupold 1.5x5 scope that Ive had about 12 years now. Had a horse roll on my rifle and scope, after that, the reticle was slow to move. I sent it back to Leupold to be refurbished. I liked the scope so I was willing to pay for it. I got it back in exactly two weeks and it was completely redone on the insides. They didnt charge me a dime. If I wasnt such a skinflint I would have felt pretty guilty about it...

I had the same problem with the S.A. 4x16x56 as stated above with the 6x40. I payed well over $500 for that scope and the reticle turned about 20 degrees while sighting it in from the bench. I'm glad it did break. S.A. gave me a choice of repair or refund. Before the reticle broke, I couldn't see .30 caliber bullet holes that were in the black @ 200 yards on 16 power. The guy next to me could see them clear with his 3x9 Leopold. I also thought the reticle was much to busy with all the range finding junk and the scope level. At least they refunded my money with no problem. I bought a Burris 4x16 that has amazingly clear optics. I got it on one of Midway USA's special deals for a couple bucks more than the Springfield scope.
