to the original post, of course. I have owned a match grade M1A. Have you owned, and gone hunting with, a sound suppessed M4 and a .22lr Ciener unit for same? You won't believe the difference that the "can" makes in foraging or fighting.
I've asked my dad a similar question, if he had to grab one rifle due to civil unrest in our town what would he choose. The answer has always been his M1 Garand. that is the rifle that he has the most range time on with thousands of rounds poured through it. I've seen him shoot golf balls at 100 yds consistently while I'm trying to find it in a scope.
So to answer the question, he'd go with the Garand. I'd go with the M14 as that's what I have more range time on. But I'd feel comfortable putting rounds downrange accurately and effectively with both.
