This is a Norinco M14 Sporter rifle imported by Century Arms. Poly Technologies and Norinco M14 rifles were manufactured at the same factory, State Arsenal 356, Kunming, Yunnan, Peoples Republic of China. Please confirm the serial number on the left side of the receiver (above the stock). The receiver was manufactured in September 1990.
Found a very faded bolt etch....#34880.

When Norinco and Polytec rifles first came into the US there was no particular continuity to their serial numbers. AFAIK that hasn't changed, so I'm not sure if it is possible to compile list of serial numbers that would have any relationship to one another. Most Chinese rifles had parts like the trigger housing that were switched from other guns and bore serial numbers that do not match the receivers. I do not know what the situation is in Canada. Maybe they had better controls.

The "lotto" numbers stamped under the stock are sequential in number. When paired to the receiver serial number, you can see the approximate time frame when rifles were manufactured for each importer. It validates the fact that both Norinco and Poly Technologies rifles were built at the same factory and that parts from 1960s Chinese M14 rifles were used in the assembly of exported semi-automatic only models. Additionally, by noting the eight digit numbers sometimes found on the parts, the early 1960s production history can be estimated by year.
