I'm trying to get a range of serial numbers on Polytech and Norinco M14 rifles in the United States. This information will go in the article at http://m14.freeservers.com/about.html

So far, I have a range for Polytech M14/S rifles. The lowest known serial number is 0653. The highest serial number reported so far is 18XXX. Has anyone seen any Polytech number lower or higher?

What about Norinco M14 Sporter rifles? What serial numbers high and low have you seen?

Thanks,

Different

Truman and TB, thank you very much. I'll add the Norinco serial numbers right now as they are the first I have for Norinco. Truman, I added the remark about the Polytech Industries S/N 028XX with the heel markings to the article. I also posted a request regarding this across the street. :D

Thanks, Sparrow. Welcome aboard! Mrs. Different and I were at the beach north of Bellingham, WA this past June. I think what we saw across the little bay to the north was British Columbia, Canada. 8)

Barrel: CAI ST ALB VT
M14 S/A Sporter 308 China

Receiver:
1) Left side of receiver...above the stock..serial # is 32250 ( electric pencil etched)
2) Below the stock line.....left side of receiver...# is 9 22 50 (stamped)

Trigger Group: # 33840 (Electric pencil etched)

Hoping to get some confirmation of this being a polytech and when the receiver was built using the receiver code.
This is a Norinco M14 Sporter rifle imported by Century Arms. Poly Technologies and Norinco M14 rifles were manufactured at the same factory, State Arsenal 356, Kunming, Yunnan, Peoples Republic of China. Please confirm the serial number on the left side of the receiver (above the stock). The receiver was manufactured in September 1990.

The "lotto" numbers stamped under the stock are sequential in number. When paired to the receiver serial number, you can see the approximate time frame when rifles were manufactured for each importer. It validates the fact that both Norinco and Poly Technologies rifles were built at the same factory and that parts from 1960s Chinese M14 rifles were used in the assembly of exported semi-automatic only models. Additionally, by noting the eight digit numbers sometimes found on the parts, the early 1960s production history can be estimated by year.
