Traveling home sitting on a plain while everyone boards and I literally lol'd. Yep, I'm that crazy person laughing to myself on a plane. This is an instant classic!

If this douche did pass his background check and made the purchase what was the big story he was going to report make up about crap about then ... how easy it was to purchase a firearm with a legal background check?

What a drunken idiot.
His next story would probably be about how he has first hand knowledge that LE is becoming an overly armed aggressive para-military force ready to take over America with AR-15 "Assault Weapons of War"...complete with pics of a confused officer holding his "donated" evil "AWW"....

I have some doubts about this story. The NICS system and FBI do not tell dealers why background checks are delayed or failed. How did the dealer find out about the reporters violations and why wasn't the reporter arrested for violating federal law in lying when he filled out the 4473? This is a Federal felony.

If you read the story, he did not get rejected by NICS. And if he were blocked, the store would be in deep trouble for sending a letter to his employer about it.

The store did, however, recognize him as a reporter. And if you google the reporter's name you will see that he wrote a book titled 'Drunkard' chronicalling his battle with and recovery from alcoholism.

So he did not lie on the 4473 - it asks if you are addicted, but his addiction issues were behind him. Further, you must have been convicted of DV, not just accused.

The store barred him based on their discretion, which they are entitled to do. I'm guessing they don't usually go above and beyond NICS and google every single buyer who comes in and buys a gun. They are entitled to refuse to do business with him, no questions asked, and they stood up for their rights.

Ted , nice to talk to you again, I assumed either a yes or no from NICS ,
SS said they were aware of his book and history which prompted the stores refusal .
But I must ask...
Have you ever heard of anyone getting busted for lying on a 4473 ?
as an additional charge possibly, but I've read it has been rarely enforced as a stand alone charge.
You'd have to testify you witnessed them filling it out wouldn't you?
Just wondering your personal experiences

I am in favor of common sense gun laws.

I think it makes common sense to actually prosecute people who lie on 4473 forms. Not just as an 'add-on' charge.

Let's see ... who does the Attorney General report to, so we can complain about their doing a crap job ..... oh, wait .. Never Mind.

Agreed
They don't need new laws ,
If they just enforced the current federal gun laws .
anyone using a firearm in the commission of a crime would be serving a mandatory FEDERAL 5 year minimum sentence [no parole]
as per the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984 Sentencing Reform Act.

I've heard of it happening, but not experienced it myself. We all know the Gov. doesn't prosecute people for gun law violations. It would make it look like they are actually doing something and that some of their laws and regulations might accomplish what they intended. It would make the government look bad...
